Karachi April 15: Governor Sindh Mr. Mohammad Zubair has said that it was pivotal to administer anti-polio drops to all children under five year of age so as to ensure a healthier life for them.
This he said while inaugurating 3-days National Immunization Campaign today at Governor House.
Mr. Aziz Memon of Rotary Club and Polio Plus Committee, Mr. Fayyaz Jatoi of Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), Dr. Ahmed Ali Shaikh, Mr. Saleem Rao, Dr. Fahan Essa, Mr. Irfan Qureshi and others were also present on the occasion
Governor Sindh that reaching all under five year children was an enormous task and huge challenge but we have to successfully meet this challenge as those children who  are not administered anti-polio drops are very vulnerable to polio virus.
He lauded the joint efforts of Government and other concerned institutions for control and eradication of menace of polio from the province. Due to their strenuous efforts there has been no polio cases reported since January 2016 in Karachi and November 2016 in other districts of the province, he observed
While commending the excellent work by all concerned, he emphasized the need of further continuing the efforts in this regard so as to completely eradicate polio from Sindh.
Governor Sindh further said that Federal Government was also taking concrete measures for polio eradication so as to refute the misconception of Pakistan being a polio virus carrier country. Keeping in view the arrival of foreign investors it was essential to make Pakistan a polio free country for encouraging rapid investment in Pakistan, he opined
Mr. Aziz Memon of Rotary Club and Polio Plus Committee said that it was a joint effort of Rotary Club, WHO, Unicef and Malinda Gates Foundation, which has yielded fruits. The notable decrease in polio cases is the result of their coordinated efforts, he added.
Incharge Emergency Operations Centre Mr. Fayyaz Jatoi informed Governor Sindh that as many as 8.8 million children under 5 years of age would be administered polio drops during the NID which include 2.31 million children of Karachi. 27896 teams including 9809 for Karachi have been constituted which would carry out this huge task, he added.
